Doing What the Lord Commands

Nephi, the guy who invented going and doing what the Lord Commands

Hey, y'all!

A good week in Columbus marked by a renewed hope and sharper focus in teaching.  We had a great Zone Conference, which was also the Westons' last.  They will definitely be missed; they've done great work.  However, we're excited to see what the Gardners will bring to the table when they arrive in July.

I'm reminded of the simple importance of something that Joseph Smith said: "When the Lord commands, do it."  When you commit to join the Church, give it all you've got.  Remember the feelings that you have when you're converted and go forward.  And if you make mistakes, so what?  This life is about building your heavenly home; don't expect exaltation all at once.  When you've given it your all, the Atonement provides the capstone for the house.

Have a great week.

Elder McMurray

The Corn Is As High As A Somewhat Bigger Than Average Sized Dog's Eye...

Hey, y'all!

Another week in Columbus has come and gone.  The weather is getting warmer, the corn's getting higher (it's still budding actually, but for the sake of aesthetic writing), and people's hearts are opening to the Gospel.

We're looking forward to a good week and I wish y'all the same.  Thank y'all for your continued thoughts and prayers and I extend mine in return.

Love,

Elder McMurray

Transfers and Muscle Cars

A souped up Mustang in Columbus

Hey, Everybody!

I'm now on the Alief Ward Elders' Quorum email list so I heard all about the Houston flood, and about the efforts that Church members made to help those who'd been affected by it.  That's pretty neat.

The penultimate district meeting from last transfer (left to right): Elder McBride, me, Elder Holman, Elder Garrett, Elder Infante, and Elder Sharp

With our Zone Leaders, Elder Larsen (glasses) and Elder Lloyd

We had transfers this week.  I'm still in Columbus as a district leader and our district is now two elders less; Elder Holman from Columbus Spanish finished up his mission, Schuyler Spanish was closed and Elder McBride was transferred to Lincoln.  Elder Infante, the other Schuyler missionary, was transferred to Columbus Spanish with Elder Sharp.  So it's the same people minus two.

Me with Elder Shipley from Lincoln Spanish.  He's one of the departing missionaries from last transfer

Me with Elder Holman before his departure

This past week was a struggle, but it finished on a high note.  We had a great lesson with a recent convert and a new investigator and one of our investigators, who had been avoiding us for awhile, is visiting us again and wants to get back on track.  I was reminded that when we're hopeful and striving to acquire Christlike attributes, our area responds accordingly.

A hunk of steel and rock molded together by friction.  We found it along the railroad tracks.

I hope y'all in Houston get a chance to dry out! I will pray for all those who are affected by the floods.

Love,

Elder McMurray
